[Old Jordan Hall Auditorium] Dr. Kopp is a senior investigator in the Kidney Diseases Branch of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (National Institutes of Health), in Bethesda, Maryland. The research group he leads studies focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) and related podocyte diseases. Recent highlights of their work include the discovery that chromosome 22 harbors a major risk locus for kidney disease in African Americans, including FSGS, HIV-associated nephropathy, and arterionephrosclerosis (hypertension-attributed kidney disease).
