Research Interest:

B-1 cells have protective functions in atherosclerosis, including secretion of anti-inflammatory natural IgM antibodies recognizing oxidation-specific epitopes that accumulate during atherosclerosis. The mechanisms of B-1 natural antibody production have not been fully elucidated. Associative studies in a human cohort have suggested an atheroprotective role for the chemokine receptor CXCR4 on B cells. Using both gain-of-function and loss-of-function approaches, I am examining the role of CXCR4 in B-1 cell migration, local and systemic natural antibody production, and atheroprotection.
