Research Interest:

Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) is the leading cause of hospital-acquired, antibiotic-associated diarrhea in the United States. A steady increase in the number and severity of CDI cases has been reported in U.S. hospitals. Several clinical studies have identified inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), including Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, as independent risk factors for CDI. However, no work has been done to study this correlation. My work is aimed at understanding this phenomenon and elucidating the mechanism of increased incidence and severity of C. difficile infection in IBD patients.
