I am interested in how the adaptive immune system responds to infection in the brain. Our lab models T cell responses during central nervous system infection using Toxoplasma gondii, a protozoan parasite that naturally traffics to the brain in mice where it persists chronically. Currently, it is unclear how microbial antigen is transported out of the brain, itself devoid of lymphatic vessels, for generation of a host-protective T cell response. To this end, I am investigating how the lymphatic system in the surrounding meninges contributes to the antigen-specific T cell responses against T. gondii.
