In May Maura Belanger successfully defended her Ph.D. Thesis “Development and Characterization of Analytical Tools to Study Immunity Ex Vivo.” Her work in the CIC Faculty Member, Rebecca Pompano’s lab focused on the role of the lymph node in immune responses.

In order to study lymph node dynamics, she carefully characterized live lymph node slices as an acute culture system to study immunological functions. She also collaborated with another Chemistry lab at the University of Virginia to develop and novel cell-labelling scheme with blue fluorescent nanoparticles.
