Mentoring & Training

General Clinical Research Orientation, mentoring, and training for new Clinical Research staff is available through the School of Medicine Clinical Trials Office (CTO).  Whether you are new or have prior experience in clinical research, the CTO Education team is here to assist you.

Before the first mentoring session Clinical Research staff should complete the following:

• CITI IRB-HSR Researcher Basic Course
• Good Clinical Practice Training (one of the following): GCP for Clinical Trials with Investigational Drugs and Medical Devices (U.S. FDA Focus) or GCP for Clinical Trials with Investigational Drugs and Biologics (ICH Focus)

Using tools created by the CTO as well as online resources, we will assess your priority needs and provide training resources. We are available to meet in person or via Zoom/WebEx (if applicable). The CTO staff are available to come to your office for hands-on help if needed.

New research staff should complete mentoring sessions in the first 2-3 months of beginning your research career at UVA. If either you or the mentor feels that additional mentoring sessions or trainings are needed, then the education team will develop a more extensive plan. Once mentoring sessions/trainings are completed, we will continue to be available to answer questions or provide help as needed.  Our goal is to equip you with the relevant knowledge and skills that you will need in order to conduct compliant and quality research studies.
